Galway Bay fm newsroom – The ‘stark reality’ of the finances of Ireland’s Technology Institutes, including Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, has been revealed.
A new report from the Higher Education Authority shows that almost half of the 14 I.Ts around the country, are having money problems.
The deficit trend is forecast to continue at GMIT and other I.Ts over the next five years due to falling State funding and a growing student population.
GMIT’s campus in Castlebar is running at a 2 million euro deficit, while its Letterfrack campus is in the red for 700 thousand euro.
