Galway Bay fm newsroom – A public meeting will be held in Oughterard this evening (25/10) to hear calls for the completion of road works in the Seanapheistin area.
It’s understood approximately 400 thousand euro was provided to Galway County Council to carry out repair works on a five kilometre stretch from Seanapheistin towards Oughterard.
The funding was committed by SSE Airtricity as part of an agreement to carry out road repairs following earthworks carried out as part of a nearby windfarm construction project.
Residents argue not all of the five kilometre stretch has been complete and are calling for action.
The meeting takes place at Breathnach’s Bar at 8 this evening.
Local resident Mairead Larkin says the entire section should be resurfaced, without leaving out a portion.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Galway County Council says there is insufficient money to undertake any further works.
It adds that resurfacing has been undertaken of 8 kilometres of road along Seanapheistin road in the last number of weeks.
The works focused on the sections of road most in need.
The local authority stresses it is not intended to undertake any further works at this time as the moneys provided have been spent and those sections of road most in need of resurfacing have been attended to.
