Ballinasloe protest to highlight lack of Traveller accommodation in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Members of the Travelling community will hold a protest in Ballinasloe this afternoon to highlight a lack of apppropriate accommodation in Galway (18/10).
The event is organised by the Ballinasloe Traveller Action Group to raise awareness of the current crisis and to call for greater access to high quality accommodation across the county.
The group says many Travellers currently find themselves in deplorable conditions, with an increasing number of families at risk of becoming homeless.
Campaigners says the situation has been made worse by years of failed targets within the Traveller Accommodation Plans of Galway’s local authorities.
Protestors will gather at St. Michael’s Square in Ballinasloe at midday.
