Plan for Clifden postal sorting office moves forward

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Plans have been approved to develop a postal sorting office in Clifden.
An Post is leading the development on the outskirts of the Connemara town, which has been granted permission with five conditions attached.
The new delivery service unit will be based at the corner of Galway Road and Low Road.
It will see the change of use of existing retail, office and storage units to a postal delivery service.
The plan will also see a new shopfront on the basement unit and associated site works.
The main post office in the town is based on Main Street where the existing sorting office is not fit for purpose.
Under the proposal, the office’s five sorting staff would move to the new base.
County planner have attached five conditions – one states the sound level of any loudspeaker announcement, music or other material within the premises is to be controlled to ensure it’s not audible in the overhead apartments.
