Galway Bay fm newsroom – Traveller representatives are meeting with City Council executives this morning to discuss the ongoing Traveller accommodation crisis.
The meeting is part of an ongoing attempt to solve an impasse between the local authority and the Travelling community.
Some families claim they have been given no alternative but to set up illegal encampments across the city, due to a lack of appropriate accommodation.
The council has written to a number of families, advising them to fill out a Housing Needs Assessment form.
Those who’ve received a form are being advised to fill it in, and return it to the local authority as soon as possible to help the council with its review of Traveller accommodation needs.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan, Traveller representative Bridget Kelly says she hopes this morning’s meeting will come up with some solutions.
