Galway Bay fm newsroom – Renmore Community Centre is set to be restored to full working order by the end of September.
Contractors are on-site working on the roof of the amenity – which has previously drawn criticism for its state of disrepair.
Local councillors and residents have long highlighted the peculiar situation at Renmore Community Centre – whereby local groups have to try and plan activities on the basis that it’s not raining.
Meetings of Galway City Council have heard of the deplorable state of the roof, and the large plastic containers deployed to catch rainwater which comes through in numerous locations at high volume.
The situation means that the facility often goes largely unused for weeks at a time – and a number of community activities and sporting fixtures have been forced to go elsewhere.
However, Galway City Council has appointed a contractor to repair the facility as part of a capital plan to upgrade recreation and amenity infrastructure across the city.
Works are now underway and it’s expected that the centre will be delivered back to the community in full working order by the end of September.
