Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Taisce is calling on Galway City Council to seek a prosecution and fine over the felling of trees at Salthill Park.
In a letter to Director of Services Joe O’Neill, the environmental watchdog describes the felling of four mature trees as a ‘wilful act.’
The group is strongly criticising the move – and is asking the council to ensure that a substantial fine is issued to discourage future unauthorised felling of trees.
It’s also asking the council to outline its strategy for the protection and preservation of woodlands and individual trees within the city boundary.
An Taisce spokesperson Derrick Hambleton says if an investigation finds that the trees at Salthill Park were felled illegally, those responsible must face prosecution.
