Galway Bay fm newsroom – OPW Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney is to consider proposals for a relocation scheme for people in isolated flood prone areas.
A draft report from an interdepartmental group is due to be delivered to Minister Canney in the coming weeks.
There was a voluntary relocation scheme put in place after serious flooding in 2009 to cover cases where cost-benefit analysis rules out building flood defences.
According to the Irish Examiner, the previous scheme set up in 2010 offered around 20 households in Galway, Roscommon, and Offaly the opportunity to move.
Meanwhile, the damage caused by flooding and storms in late 2015 and early 2016 is still being repaired.
The Department of Environment allocated €3m to Galway county for clean-up works.
