Galway Bay fm newsroom – A petition with over 1,000 signatures has been handed in to City Hall this afternoon, requesting the council to upgrade the amenities at Millennium Park near Galway Cathedral.
Skateboarding facilities were developed at Millennium Park almost 16 years ago and campaigners claim the skate park is now unsafe and outdated.
As part of International Skateboarding Day, they’re calling on the City Council to replace the existing pre-fabricated facilities at Millennium Park with permanent concrete amenities.
Around 20 young people, accompanied by City Councillor Collette Connolly, presented the petition to Director of Services Tom Connell this afternoon.
Mr Connell says he will arrange a meeting between the campaign group and city officials to discuss their concerns and suggestions.
