Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are calls to re-examine restrictions being placed on some of the city’s strategic built heritage.
Fianna Fail city councillor Peter Keane has raised concerns that sometimes there is an over-emphasis on the conservation of such built heritage.
He told this month’s meeting of the local authority that some buildings in the city centre’s retail area remain empty due to such restrictions.
His comments followed the presentation and adoption of the city’s heritage plan.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, he says while he fully endorses the plan, the implementation of national policy presents challenges.
