Galway Bay fm newsroom – NUI Galway has been given the go-ahead for a flood defence wall at the Newcastle campus.
The structure will be 33 metres in length and will run along the bank of a section of the Distillery Channel water course which is a protected structure.
City planners have attached 10 conditions to their grant of permission.
These include that verification is provided of the package of flood prevention, alleviation and protection works being carried out on the channel.
In addition, all works are to be supervised by a conservation expert who will then submit a report to the local authority.
