Galway Bay fm newsroom – There is disappointment that the need for a new second level multi-denominational school has not been identified for Galway.
Thirty Galway schools received good news today by being informed that they’re included in the Government’s School Building Programme for the next five years.
Many schools can now go ahead and proceed with plans for extensions and upgrades.
Other schools such as Scoil Bhríde in Lackagh, which already has planning permission, can proceed to advanced stages of building.
Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Peter Roche says Cahergal national school can proceed to construction next year as a result of being included in the list.
The schools included in the Building Programme are as follows:
Scoil Bhríde Lackagh; Scoil Seosamh Naofa, Carrabane; Cahergal National School, Monivea National School, Scoil an Chroí Naofa, Ballinasloe; Gaelscoil Iarfhlatha, Tuam; Our Lady’s College, Newtownsmith; Rosedale Special School, Renmore; Claregalway Educate Together; St. Oliver’s Special School, Tuam; Scoil Chroí Naofa, Scoil Baile Atha Na Riogh, Gaelscoil Riada, Presentation College, Coláiste an Eachraidh and Gairmscoil Mhuire Athenry; Scoil Naomh Eanna, Bullaun; Coláiste Chroí Mhuire Gan Smál, Spiddal; Coláiste Cholmcille, Inverin; Scoil Iosaif Naofa and Scoil Mhuire, Oranmore; St. Annin’s, Roscahill, Scoil Caitriona senior & junior schools in Renmore; Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen; St. Teresa’s Special School, Ballinasloe; Knocknacarra Educate Together; Galway Steiner national school, Knocknacarra; Gort national school; St. Joseph’s College ‘The Bish’, Nun’s Island and finally Presentation College, Headford.
Galway West Fine Gael T.D, Seán Kyne, says it’s good news for 30 schools in Galway hoping to improve facilities.
However Labour T.D, Derek Nolan, is disappointed that the need for a multi-denominational secondary school in Galway has not been identified.
In relation to Clifden Community School, which is not part of this list, a tender report is currently being assessed by the Department and it’s hoped a contractor will be appointed soon.
