Galway Bay fm newsroom – The west end of Galway city is to get a long awaited ATM.
Westend Traders were refused planning permission by the city council for the ATM at No.1 Lower Fairhill Road.
The city council decided that an ATM would lead to traffic hazards thi decision was appealed to the higher planning authority
The traders appealed the refusal for an ATM to An Bord Pleanála, which has now ruled in their favour and granted permission for the facility next door to Monroes Tavern.
The higher planning authority rejected its own inspector’s recommendation and has approved the new ATM, stating that it would not seriously injure the amenities of the area.
An Bord Pleanála has stipulated that the proposed steel door must be clad in wood to match existing doors.
Westend Traders had argued that an ATM facility is a ‘basic and necessary’ requirement to facilitate businesses and clientele.
