Galway Bay fm newsroom – A city-based accountancy firm says that a matter which resulted in a bench warrant being issued for the arrest of former politician, Ivor Callely, has not been resolved.
The former Fianna Fáil minister of state from Clontarf was due to appear before Dublin District Court this week, but failed to show.
It was reported that Ivor Callely understood the matter with Gallagher & Company, based at Ballybane, had been resolved on the steps of the court.
According to today’s Irish Times, the Galway company has denied that any such resolution over the 1 thousand 755 euro debt was reached.
Solicitor Mark Newman told the court this week that Ivor Callely had not complied with a previous court order requiring him to provide documentation on his income and expenditure.
Judge Michael Coghlan issued a bench warrant for his arrest when he did not appear in court with the information earlier this week.
Ivor Callely was jailed in 2014 for 5 months for using false invoices to claim expenses when he was a member of the Seanad.
A spokesperson for the former politician said there was a breakdown in communication between the two parties and he is seeking to have the matter cleared up immediately.
However, the Galway accountancy firm says there was no breakdown in communication and the debt remains outstanding.
