Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Bord Pleanala will decide this week if a major upgrade of the N59 between Maam Cross and Clifden can go ahead.
There have been several delays to the decision date on the long-awaited project – but planners are now finalising the case details.
The project will involve some re-routing of sections of the N59, in a bid to make it safer.
The road has been described as one of the worst national routes in the country.
The improvement scheme has faced a variety of challenges including land ownership issues, ecological and enironmental barriers – and an oral hearing was held by the planning authority late last year.
An Bord Pleanala is expected to make its decision on the N59 upgrade this Friday.
