There were moving scenes in the city this afternoon as up to 200 people gathered for a vigil in solidarity with the French people.
The event followed the deaths of over 120 people following six coordinated terror attacks in Paris last night.
The vigil at the Spanish Arch was organised by Catherine Gagneux, the French Honorary Consul for Galway, and was led by Galway’s French community.
French flags were held high in strong winds and heavy rain, as the emotional crowd sang the French national anthem.
Minsiter Aodhan O’Riordan is visiting Galway today for a number of engagements.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news at this afternoon’s vigil, he sent his condolences to the people of Paris.
A book of condolences for the victims of the attacks and their families and friends will opened at City Hall on Monday morning.
