Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway TD is claiming that the health policies of successive Governments are channeling money into private hospitals.
Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Catherine Connolly said that a ‘systematic’ running down of the public health service has led to taxpayers funds being poured into private health.
The Independent Deputy listed off what she labelled as failed government policies – including the National Treatment Purchase Fund, which allows patients on waiting lists to be treated at private facilities.
She also included the co-location policy, the special delivery unit, and the creation of the trust system in the list of what she branded absolute failures.
She told the chamber that despite these failures, the Government seems intent on continuing on with further initiatives that are doomed to failure.
Deputy Connolly said that the root of the problem can be traced back to the coalition government of 1997.
