Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway East TD is calling for an overhaul of the tax relief system for drivers and passengers with disabilities.
Fianna Fáil deputy Anne Rabbitte says eligibility for the Primary Medical Cert should be expanded, as the current criteria is ‘extremely limited.’
She says the application form has just four narrowly defined options, and a significant number of people with valid medical conditions which prevent them from driving are being excluded as a result.
Deputy Rabbitte says the Motorised Transport Grant previously catered for these people – but the scheme closed to new entrants in 2013.
