Galway Bay fm newsroom – Minister for the Environment, Alan Kelly, says he is discussing the Budget allocation for Galway County Council with officials from his department.
It follows heated scenes at a meeting of the local authority yesterday where councillors were told that there would be a funding shortfall of more than 3 quarters of a million euro for the coming year.
It’s due to a drop in valuations for utility companies across the county and could mean that the county’s roads maintenance funding could be hit.
Councillors demanded that a letter be sent to Minister Kelly stating that the county council would now accept the cut.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan today, Minister Kelly says the drop in funds is not unique to Galway County Council.
