Apple announces one million euro fund to promote use of Galway Bay energy test site

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Technology giant Apple has committed one million euro in funding to promote the use of an energy test site in Galway Bay.
The Ocean Energy Industry fund will run for a period of four years to allow marine developers to use the Galway Bay Ocean Energy Test Site.
US company Apple has reached an agreement with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to provide 250 thousand euro annually for four years.
Starting in 2016, the one million euro fund will help marine developers who have already received an SEAI grant to test devices in Galway Bay.
Vice President of Environment at Apple, Lisa Jackson, says they’re excited by the potential of ocean energy to someday serve as a source of clean power for the one billion euro data center planned for Athenry.
The Galway Bay Ocean Energy Test Site, which opened in 2006, is a state of the art facility designed to test wave energy techologies.
The annoucement has been welcomed by Minister for Communication and Energy Alex White, who says its a clear indication that Ireland is open for business for marine development.
