Galway Bay fm newsroom – County Cathaoirleach Peter Roche has launched a community tree planting initiative, to plant 1916 native trees in Rinville Park, Oranmore to mark the centenary of the Rising.
A large crowd has turned out to play their part in putting down roots for the next 100 years with the event continuing until 4 this afternoon
A record of those taking part in the tree planting is being created by Galway County Council.
The initiative led by Galway County Council is part of the next phase of the Rinville Park Woodlands Plan and is organised in partnership with Conservation Volunteers & Tidy Towns Oranmore
Bare Root Oak Trees, Silver Birch, Alder, Hazel and Holly along with Spindle and Wild Cherry are being planted in order to help sustain the amenity into the future
Cathaoirleach Roche has paid tribute to those participating, acknowledging their special and unique contribution in creating a permanent reminder of the county’s commemoration of the Galway men and women of 1916.
