NUIG bio-engineer develops product to reduce hospital procedures

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A bio-engineer based at NUI Galway has developed a non-invasive solution which removes the need for complicated procedures and a hospital visit for children.
Kidney reflux is a common urological order in childhood and can resolve itself but may lead to kidney damage if left untreated.
Diagnosing the condition is a painful and invasive hospital procedure.
Sarah Loughney based at NUIG has developed a non-invasive solution for kidney reflux that removes the need for a complicated procedure.
She will licence the technology IP from NUIG and the project currently employs 4 people.
Kite Medical will be set up in the next few months to commercialise the product and is hoping to secure an investment of 3 million euro to speed up the roll-out of the product for clinical use.
