Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over a thousand people attended a a public meeting at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry last night (11/2) to discuss a new school building for Presentation College.
The school has more than 1,100 pupils and has to use 25 prefabs in addition to the existing building to accommodate the numbers.
The planning application for a new school for Presentation College hit delays three years ago.
IDA Ireland raised concerns about the potential impact on enterprise development of the new school site, which would be adjacent to IDA lands.
The department has been trying to acquire a different site for the past three years, and says the acquisition process is underway.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Principal of Presentation College Athenry, Cathal Moore says people in the area are angry.
He says that the meeting passed a motion which will now be sent directly to the Minister for Education.
