Galway Bay fm newsroom – The INMO is urging the HSE to urgently commission an external examination of the crisis situation facing the Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway.
General Secretary Liam Doran says the unit remains in deep trouble today, following the issuing of a warning by the HSE yesterday evening over overcrowding conditions.
The INMO ED Committee will hold a meeting this afternoon and will call for the HSE’s Special Delivery Unit to launch an external review into the A&E at UHG.
Yesterday hospital management issued a public warning – asking people to avoid the A&E if possible due to serious overcrowding.
Most elective surgeries were deferred as a result.
Liam Doran says that management is doing all it can to tackle the situation – but a lack of beds and shortages in nursing and medical staff are central to the crisis.
