Galway Bay fm newsroom – Fine Gael county councillor, Tom McHugh has begun legal action against RTÉ over an alleged breach of privacy.
The High Court proceedings relate to an undercover interview for the RTÉ Investigates programme broadcast last December.
Councillor Tom McHugh was interviewed for the programme by a reporter who was posing as a representative of a wind farm business interested in investing in Ireland.
Councillor McHugh says he was contacted by phone in relation to a potential wind farm in east Galway.
He contacted someone whom he thought could help but later realised it was a ‘scam’ having heard the same thing happened another councillor.
According to today’s Irish Times, RTÉ has established that Councillor McHugh had failed to register certain assets.
The Fine Gael councillor says he has no problem with RTÉ disclosing his failure to declare assets but was concerned over what he claims was entrapment on false pretences.
He is taking a High Court case alleging breach of human rights.
