Galway Bay fm newsroom – A protest is underway at County Hall over the controversial proposed closure of the R339 between Cartymore and Cashla.
About 20 affected residents arrived at County Hall a short time ago to hand in almost 500 submissions gathered from the area on the impending works.
The proposed works are expected to last three weeks and will involve the tie-in of the new overbridge road with the R339 at both ends.
The section of the Monivea Road between Cartymore and Cashla is set to fully close for 3 weeks around Easter.
Locals feel that there has been a lack of consultation with them by either the contractors SISK or the County Council in relation to the planned works.
Senator Trevor O Clochartaigh says that Galway County Council has a duty to listen to the concerns being raised by locals.
