Galway Bay fm newsroom – A doctor found guilty at a fitness to practice inquiry will have to wait a number of months to find out what sanctions the Medical Council will impose.
Dr Omar Hassan was found guilty last night of 28 counts of poor professional performance and six counts of professional misconduct while working at hospitals in Galway, Portlaoise and Castlebar.
The 30 year old from Sudan has already been suspended from the medical register and will face sanctions at a later date.
The 11-day inquiry heard from former colleagues that the doctor appeared to lack basic medical knowledge.
It was told that at one point he identified an x-ray of an ankle as an elbow joint.
Two former colleagues at UHG were so concerned that they checked the Irish medical register to confirm that Dr Hassan was in fact a registered doctor.
Dr Hassan will now have to wait a number of months to find out what sanctions the Medical Council will impose.
