Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway City Council says a variety of services have been offered to Traveller families who have been asked to leave private property at Carrowbrowne – but not all families have availed of the services.
The local authority says the families who presented at City Hall this week have been notified of the most appropriate immediate options available to them.
The options included self-funding their own accommodation with access to COPE Galway’s Day Centre services, and emergency homeless services at Osterley Lodge and the Fairgreen Hostel.
The City Council says these options were outlined with a view to providing a medium-term solution.
City Councillor Noel Larkin says Traveller families have caused significant damage to the site at Carrowbrowne.
Bridget Kelly of Galway Traveller Movement says the City Council has a responsibility to reach its targets for Traveller accommodation.
