Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has confirmed that a consultant has been appointed to begin the planning process for a new sewerage system in Spiddal.
Irish Water has appointed a specialist to oversee the planning of the scheme, and estimated costs have yet to be published.
The Spiddal scheme will be one of around 20 such schemes nationwide, in areas which are currently not compliant with the European Urban Waste Water directive.
Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames says Spiddal has been stripped of its two blue flag awards due to the pumping of raw sewage into the sea.
She says the announcement that the scheme is going ahead is great news for the local community.
