Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water is coming under fire for what’s being described as a series of ‘pop-up’ roadworks in Oranmore, which is putting local businesses at serious risk of closure.
Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames says she’s been contacted by a number of local business-owners who are concerned that ongoing works are having a negative impact on their business.
She claims businesses are not being notified in advance of road closures, and at least one business has already closed as a direct result.
Today, roadworks are underway at the Dublin Road and Coast Road.
Rolling road closures came into effect in the village in September to facilitate water network upgrade works.
Speaking to NewsBreak, Senator Healy Eames says the works should have been completed by now.
She says businesses in Oranmore are being severely impacted by the ongoing roadworks, and the County Council should immediately reduce commercial rates in the village.
