Galway Bay fm newsroom – The City Council is to review the effectiveness of its Homeless Action Plan.
This action has been included in the Service Delivery Plan for 2016 which has been discussed at a meeting of the city council.
The Service Delivery Plan outlines the objectives of the Council for the next year in areas such as housing, transport, water services, planning and environment.
Under the housing department and new Rent Review scheme is due to be in place by summer and there will be a revised Development Contributions Scheme.
The Council also plans to review the effectiveness of the Homeless Action Plan.
The Transportation department is undertaking a speed limit review and plans to implement upgrade works for city bridges.
Bus corridors on the Tuam Road and Joyce Road will also be progressed to planning and design stage.
There is also an objective to secure planning and funding to improve access at Merlin Park hospital.
The council is also working on establishing an electronic Derelict Sites Register.
In terms of the management of community centres in areas such as Knocknacarra and Ballinfoyle, the Service Plan indicates that there should be draft proposals complete by summer.
The Council also plans to acquire lands for a new cemetery and advance planning.
Councillor Declan McDonnell asked whether or not funding had been secured for 55 social housing units at Ballymoneen Road.
He was told the housing department has been verbally advised that the go ahead to advertise the tender will be given, but they haven’t received anything in writing yet.
