Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway TD is accusing the Government of failing to take action to ensure fair Beef prices for Irish Farmers.
Galway West Deputy Eamon O’ Cuiv says that the price gap between Irish and British beef has widened significantly in recent times and now stands at over one euro per kilo.
He says that Minister Simon Coveney has failed on a commitment given last year to tackle issues in the Irish beef sector, and many farmers are now struggling to break even.
The Fianna Fail Deputy claims that a Beef Forum established by the Minister has proven to be a ‘toothless tiger’ – and price gaps between Ireland and the UK are continuing to rise.
Deputy O’ Cuiv says farmers are price-takers and not price-makers under the current regime – and action is urgently needed.
