Galway Bay fm newsroom – A public meeting will be held in Galway in the coming weeks to discuss actions which could be taken to save rural GP services.
A meeting held in Co Clare last night was attended by over 200 people.
Last evening’s meeting is the second in a national series of events being organised by the ‘No Doctor, No Village’ campaign.
Organisers say villages that end up without at GP struggle to survive.
Nationally, 915 doctors are expected to retire in the next five years.
Similar public meetings will take place in Galway, Mayo, Kerry, Cork and Wexford in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, GPs could decide to run a general election candidate in Co Clare, in a bid to make supports for rural doctors a key election issue.
A nationwide campaign is gathering around the issue according to GP Dr Liam Glynn from Ballyvaughan.
