Galway Bay fm newsroom – The first draw down of a 45 thousand euro grant to fund the opening of a resource centre for the LGBT community in the city will be made this month.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is providing the money which it says will provide a safe meeting place for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender people and their families in Galway.
The charity says it’s in line with the Society’s mission to support people who may be marginalised or experiencing problems such as loneliness, social isolation and bullying.
There had been controversy over the allocation of the grant, however SVP says it’s satisfied with the governance arrangements for the Teach Solais resource centre.
Spokesperson for AMACH! LGBT Galway Limited Nuala Ward says the funding will allow them to employ a community support worker.
