Galway Bay fm newsroom – The face of religious education in schools across the Tuam archdiocese is set to change significantly over the next few months.
The diocese is launching a new Catholic curriculum for primary schools.
The programme will be rolled out in around 200 schools across the archdiocese.
It’ll feature two new texts – The Catholic Preschool and Primary Religious Education Curriculum for Ireland and The new primary school Religious education series, Grow in Love.
The curriculum will be launched at Presentation Primary School in Tuam at 11.15 next Wednesday, November 11th.
The launch of the Catholic programme comes as the State announces a new multi-faith Religious Education curriculum for primary schools.
Parents, teachers and members of the public across Galway are being asked for their views on how religion is taught to young children.
A public consultation on the issue has been launched by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.
Under the plans, a new beliefs and ethics class could be introduced to coincide with traditional religion classes.
