Galway Bay fm newsroom – Suggestions that Galway County Council spent 40 thousand euro on a custom carpet at the expense of public roads are being branded ‘wrong’ and ‘disingenuous’.
County Cathaoirleach Peter Roche says that the recent 600 thousand euro refurbishment of County Hall is fully costed through budget savings relating to property leases.
He says that not one cent was diverted from frontline services – and any suggestion to the contrary is entirely disingenuous.
It follows concerns raised by Councillor James Charity that 40 thousand euro was spent on a custom carpet for the chamber at a time when the Council was struggling to find the funds to repair roads across the county.
Cathaoirleach Peter Roche says that the 600 thousand euro refurbishment was necessary – and had no effect on funding for public services.
Cathaoirleach Roche also says that the refurbishment supported a significant number of local businesses across Galway.
