Galway Bay fm newsroom – Tipperary County Council is being urged to take action to re-open a road near Portumna which has been closed since Storm Desmond caused flooding earlier this month.
Councillor Anne Rabbitte says the closure of the N65 from Portumna to Carrigahorrig is affecting businesses in Portumna which rely on customers from Tipperary.
She says that traffic has to make a long detour to get into Galway from north Tipperary.
However, in a statement to Galway Bay fm News, Tipperary Council says there are no easy engineering solutions to alleviate the flooding.
The Council says water levels are being monitored daily and are dropping but the road can’t be reopened until it’s safe and that the detour is not ‘unduly long’.
Councillor Rabbitte says it’s a bad time of year to have a main artery to Portumna closed off.
