Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is being slammed over its spending of public money on decorating County Hall.
Councillor James Charity says that reports suggest that 40 thousand euro was spent on a custom made carpet for the Council Chamber during recent refurbishment works.
The Independent Councillor says that the Council has now commissioned a custom made wall hanging to match the carpet – at a time when the local authority is struggling to find funds to repair public roads.
He also claims that the Council is resisting providing a detailed breakdown of the costings of the recent 600 thousand euro overhaul of the Council Chamber.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Galway County Council says it did not enter a specific contract for the new carpet, and it’s cost was included in the overall figure of 600 thousand euro.
It also says that a wall hanging, which matches the carpet in question, has been completed by Connemara Carpets Ltd at a cost of €1,500.
