Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Government is coming under fire from a Galway T.D over what he claims is a total failure to introduce high-speed broadband to rural Ireland.
Galway West Deputy Eamon O’ Cuiv says the Government’s National Broadband Scheme is too slow, and will be redundant by the time it’s eventually rolled out.
It follows the announcement by Minister Alex White that his department is officially looking for a firm to supply 100% broadband coverage nationwide by 2020.
Deputy Ó Cuiv says the scheme only guarantees a 30 mega-bit connection – a speed he claims is below accepted standards for high speed broadband.
The Fianna Fáil deputy says forcing areas of rural Ireland to wait a further 3 years for a substandard service is unacceptable.
