New report shows significant drop in number of ghost estates in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Three unfinished housing estates in Galway are in the control of the National Asset Management Agency.
The fourth annual progress report on ghost estates has been published by the Department of the Environment.
It shows that there are a total of 668 unfinished estates across the country down from 3 thousand 5 years ago.
In Galway city, there has been a 40 per cent reduction in unfinished housing estates since last year.
This figure is 34 per cent for the county.
According to the report there are a total of 24 unfinished housing developments in Galway down from 83 in 2013.
In the city there are 3 occupied unfinished housing estates, while in the county there are residents in 16 unfinished estates.
There are no vacant housing developments in the city, but there are 5 ghost estates with no residents in the county.
This time last year there were 16 unfinished developments in NAMA, but that figure has now been reduced to 3.
Minister of State for Housing Paudie Coffey says it’s his intention to explore all options with various stakeholders to further resolve unfinished developments.
