Galway Bay fm newsroom – A major partnership between NUI Galway and the Abbey Theatre in Dublin is set to make the Abbey Theatre Minute Books available to the public for the first time.
The NUI Galway-Abbey Theatre digitisation project will make available one thousand previously unseen pages of the books from between 1904 and 1939.
The books include the period when Lady Gregory and W.B. Yeats were involved in the management of the renowned theatre.
They’ll offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the theatre on topics including the selection of plays, rates of pay, and great Irish actors of the day.
The books will be part of the Abbey Theatre Archive at the James Hardiman Library at NUI Galway, which currently contains over one million items.
