Galway Bay Fm newsroom-Further doubt has been cast on the future role of the Forum project in Connemara this week following a decision by a Galway County Council committee.
The County Council’s Local Community Development Committee has decided against an application by the Letterfrack based Forum to administer the next round of the Leader programme in north Connemara.
Serious doubts emerged a year ago about the future of the Forum project which has its head offices in Letterfrack.
Forum was not successful in its bid to run the social supports programme known as SICAP in north Connemara.
As well as removing the hub of the services from the locality, eleven jobs were also put in jeopardy.
Since then, Forum has fought that decision in the Courts and the next hearing comes up in February.
Meanwhile Forum has sought to hold onto its role in administering the Leader programme in North Connemara.
However, there are different structures in place now and the Local Community Development Committee in the County Council has a leading role.
This committee ruled out an attempt by Forum this week to run the Leader programme in North Connemara for the next five years.
