Galway Bay fm newsroom – The N84 Headford is closed between Corrandulla barracks and Regan’s of Clonboo this afternoon and will remain closed for several hours.
An articulated truck, which was understood to be carrying timber, has jack-knifed and the road is completely blocked.
Three units of the city fire brigade, an ambulance and Gardaí attended the scene of the incident, which happened shortly before 12 this afternoon.
Gardaí say the road is likely to remain closed for several hours.
Motorists travelling to or from Galway on the N84 this afternoon are being advised to divert via Knockdoe, or Loughgeorge.
The Headford Road re-opened at 6 this morning after an overnight closure to facilitate emergency flood mitigation works.
The route over the Clare river had to close to traffic as the river levels continued to rise last evening.
Resurfacing work was carried out overnight to prevent further flooding on the route, which has been badly impacted by adverse weather conditions this week.
