Galway Bay fm newsroom – update at 9am – Motorists on some of the main routes into the city today (9/12) are experiencing long delays as heavy volumes slow down traffic.
Many local roads remain flooded today as water levels in the Shannon, Clare and Suck rivers rise.
The latest information from the county council is that the road between Carnmore Cross and Coosaun Cross is still closed.
The Dunmore to Ballindine road is also closed and there is flooding in Glenamaddy, either side of Kilcroan National School.
Local diversions are in place at Kilnalag Cross in Williamstown, while the Coolarne to Turloughmore road at Cartymore is also blocked.
Local roads at Lisheenavalla are affected by susbstantial flooding while there is local access only to Montiagh (MOON-CHUCK).
Local roads in Ballygar, Williamstown, Kinvara, Kilbeacanty, Kiltartan, Ballylee, Kilcolgan, Ballinderreen and Gort are all affected by floods.
The area at Rinn, Kileeneen is under substantial water again today.
The Portumna to Tynagh Road is impassable this morning and traffic is still down to one lane at the N65 Bridge Road.
There are concerns that Portumna will experience rising water levels in the next 36 hours as the Shannon rises.
Council crews are warning motorists that there is severe flooding at Cregg Castle in Corrandulla and at Finns Cross in Abbeyknockmoy but are passable with caution.
Ballinasloe and its surrounds are still under a boil water notice and the Red Cross has been distributing bottled water.
Bottles of water are also being made available for use in Portumna.
The N17 and N84 are open in both directions today but traffic is slow moving as some motorists are over-cautious approaching the 9 Arches in Claregalway.
The Council says motorists who normally travel on the N63 are asked to consider using the R347 from Annagh Hill to the M6 in Athenry.
