Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over a third of people on the social housing waiting list for County Galway turn down the homes they’re offered.
According to figures collated in today’s Irish Independent, almost a third of offers nationwide were rejected.
In Galway city, the refusal rate is 21%, while in the county, over 34% of those who are offered social housing reject the offered home.
In some counties like Cork and Waterford almost half of accommodation offered to people on housing lists was turned down.
In Dublin where the housing crisis is most severe, almost one in five offers were turned down.
Families rejected housing offers for a range of reasons including lack of access to schools and services, or because they did not like the area or the house.
