Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE says it’s pushing ahead with plans to develop new facilities at Merlin Park Hospital in the city.
The health executive says it’s working to further develop outpatient and day services at the hospital as part of a wider development plan.
Over the past year, a number of services such as physiotherapy and cardiac rehabilitation services have been relocated to Merlin Park.
Additional clinics have also been established in rheumatology, nephrology and orthopaedics.
A new one million euro day surgery has also been developed at the School of Podiatry Clinic at Unit 3.
Tuam area councillor and health forum member Mary Hoade says the facility will open in January.
Meanwhile, the HSE’s central office is currently assessing an application for funding for a new Community Nursing Unit at Merlin Park.
Phase one of this project consists of 52 replacement beds for the existing units 5 and 6.
Phase two would involve the provision of 48 additional beds and a Day Care Centre.
