Galway Bay fm newsroom – The deported husband of a Ballinasloe woman has returned home to Ireland from Brazil following a long-running battle against his deportation.
Kleber Medeiros arrived at Dublin airport at 10 o’ clock last night to bring a lengthy campaign run by his wife Harriet Bruce to a successful conclusion.
Harriet met Kleber in Ballinasloe in 2013, and after two years of dating the pair announced their engagement in August of 2015.
However, two days after that announcement, a member of the public contacted the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service to claim the couple were planning a marriage of convenience.
Mr. Medeiros, who worked at a meat factory in Ballinasloe, was subsequently deported on July 13th last – six months after the couple’s wedding.
However, the HSE later admitted that there was no evidence to support the original objection.
There were tears last night at Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport as the couple were finally reunited in an embrace on Irish soil.
Galway Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh who has been campaigning for the couple, says their nightmare has finally ended after a six month struggle.
