Galway Bay fm newsroom – The CEO of Galway County Council will meet with representatives of Island Ferries in the next hour in a bid to find a solution to the Aran Island ferry crisis.
Residents of and visitors to the Aran Island of Inis Mór are facing a second day without a ferry service in more than 30 years.
The Island Ferries service ceased on Wednesday, and is due to remain out of action until March.
Last evening, County Councillors gave CEO Kevin Kelly a mandate to meet with Island Ferries on their behalf.
Gaeltacht Minister Sean Kyne will also attend the meeting at 11am at County Hall.
The council is also to contact the Taoiseach and the Department of the Gaeltacht in a bid to reinstate a ferry service as soon as possible.
An hour ahead of this morning’s meeting, spokesperson for Island Ferries Jason O’Sullivan told Keith Finnegan the company wants a 50% reduction in the 80c per passenger levy.
