peed limits are to be introduced into 21 estates in the Loughrea municipal district next year.
The measure will see signage erected at estates in Loughrea, Gort, Ballindereen, Kinvara, Portumna and Killimor to enforce a limit of 30km/h.
Last year, the County Council introduced speed limits to estates across Galway as part of a trial programme to improve road safety.
The 30km/h limit is supported by the erection of signage in selected estates, with further measures to be considered if deemed necessary.
16 estates in the Loughrea municipal district were included in the initiative last year – and further funding has now been secured to roll out measures at estates in Loughrea, Gort, Ballindereen, Kinvara, Portumna and Killimor next year.
In Gort, River Walk, Dun na Ri, Cuirt Bhreac, 1-16 Crowe Street and Bolands Lane will all have speed limits imposed during 2017.
In Loughrea, the estates to be taken into the programme are Eden Park, Taobh Uisce, Garrybreada, The Waterfront, Baunoge, Ashlawn, Hazelwood, Cois Furain and Rus-In-Urbe court.
Three estates in Portumna will also see speed limits introduced next year – these are An Baile Glas, Marian Park and Radharc na Coille.
Other estates to be included in the 2017 rollout of speed limits are Caoin Dara in Ballindereen, Arvough in Kinvara, Maheramore in Killimor and an estate in Ardrahan.
