Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway senator is demanding answers from the Justice Minister over the case of a convicted child sex offender who is serving his sentence in his city home.
Senator Trevor O’ Clochartaigh says the woman at the center of the case was never notified that her abuser was being sent home to serve his sentence under house arrest.
Last July, Martin Davoren, from Caireal Mór, Castlegar, who is in a wheelchair, pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to charges of indecently assaulting a girl in the county between 1986 and 1988.
He received a five year jail sentence, but was sent home from court as there was nowhere to accommodate him in an Irish prison.
It’s the first time any Irish prisoner has been allowed to serve their sentence at home.
Senator O’ Clochartaigh says the case raises a number of serious questions that Minister Frances Fitzgerald must answer.
